Inspiracją dla nowego stroju może być praktycznie wszystko, ale filmy rządzą naszą wyobraźnią jak nic innego. Kostium filmowy jest przedłużeniem osobowości bohatera, staje się jego nieodłączną częścią i tę właśnie część możemy przenieść do swojego życia. Czy ktoś wyobraża sobie Johna Travoltę w "Gorączce sobotniej nocy" w innym garniturze niż biały? Albo Diane Keaton jako Annie Hall w falbaniastej sukience zamiast męskiej stylizacji? Silne, wyróżniające się postaci mają równie silne kostiumy, które zaczynają żyć własnym życiem kulturalnym i towarzyskim.

Współcześnie moda czerpie garściami z tego, co zobaczymy na dużym i małym ekranie. Po "Czarnym łabędziu" Darrena Aronofsky'ego tiulowe spódnice weszły na salony razem z ozdobami z piór i opaskami na głowę. Serial "Mad Men" zrobił równie wiele zamieszania - nie tylko przypomniał o wspaniałościach mody retro, ale wywołał rewolucję w kanonie kobiecej urody.

Anything could be an inspiration for an outfit, but nothing rules our minds as much as movies. A film costume is an extension of the character's personality, it becomes their inseparable part which we can convey into our lives. Can anyone imagine John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever" wearing other suit but white? Or Diane Keaton as Annie Hall in a frilly dress instead of her masculine look? Strong and distinctive characters wear equally strong costumes living with their own cultural and social life.

These days, fashion derives anything it can from the world of cinematography. After Darren Aronofsky's "Black Swan", tutu skirts entered the red carpet together with feather ornaments and decorative headbands. "Mad Men" made an even bigger fuss - not only dit it remind of marvellous retro styles, but also evoked a revolution in women's beauty cannons.

Inspiracje filmowe nie muszą dotyczyć bezpośrednio kostiumów, mogą to być luźne skojarzenia wywołane przez sam klimat filmu, fabułę, tytuł. W "Mechanicznej pomarańczy" Kubricka nikt nie nosi pomarańczowych płaszczy, a jednak było to pierwsze skojarzenie odnośnie płaszcza poniżej, a właściwie jego hipnotyzującego koloru. Skórzane pasy, nity i ciężka biżuteria nawiązują do ponurego klimatu filmu i jego nader niegrzecznych bohaterów. Wyobrażacie sobie Alexa wyciągającego papierosa z takiej serduszkowej papierośnicy? Jego ironiczne poczucie humoru zawyłoby z zachwytu.
Druga stylizacja luźno nawiązuje do Wielkiego Gatsby'ego i dekadencji lat 20. W końcu retro da się potraktować z dużym przymrużeniem oka. Zamysł zdradzają cekiny, luźny fason sukienki i żakiet przypominający obcięty frak. Marylin Monroe na broszce to tylko zmyłka.

Film inspirations don't need to refer to costumes straightaway, sometimes they are just free thoughts on the film's atmosphere, plots, title. In Stanley Kubrick's "Clockwork Orange", nobody wears orange coats, yet it was the first thought occuring after looking at the coat below. More precisely - at its hypnotising colour. Leather belts, studs and heavy metal jewellery refer to the movie's gloomy aura and its rather naughty characters. Can you imagine Alex taking out a cigarette from a heart-printed cigarette holder? His ironic sense of humour would scream with happiness.
The second set relates to the Great Gatsby and 20's decandence, as retro can be taken totally unseriously. The idea is shown by sequins, the straight line of the dress and a jacket resembling a cut-off tailcoat. Marylin Monroe brooch is just a mislead.
